Today’s One Thing is just a little fun I had creating Halloween illustrations using DALLE-3 inside ChatGPT Plus, and I thought I’d share the process I went through trying to tweak an image to match my preferences.

Prompt: a super cool watermelon wearing a bathing suit floating in a martini glass wearing a Halloween costume, aspect ratio 3:2

Nice, but it needs a Halloween-themed background, so I ask, “what is the seed for the second image?”.

ChatGPT returned, “The seed for the second image is 2476159748. Is there anything else you'd like to do with this image or any other inquiries?”.

So now I simply ask ChatGPT/DALLE3 to add the background “add a halloween themed background to 2476159748”, and we get the image below.

I asked for the seed number for this image so I could then change the watermelon to a goya, which is a popular local vegetable here in Okinawa. Goya is know as bitter melon outside Japan.

“change the watermelon to a bitter melon goya in seed 2476159748”.

I got the below image but now I want to change what the goya is wearing.

So I asked ChatGPT/DALLE3 to change it with the below prompt.

change the bathing suit to a one piece bathing suit for seed 2476159748.

I initially got a content violation notice, probably because of the word “bathing”.

I'm sorry, but I was unable to generate the image based on the recent request due to our content policy. Please let me know if you have any other requests or questions, and I'll be happy to assist.

So I rephrase my question to use the word “outfit”.

I don’t consider sunglasses to be an outfit, so I ask for a few alternatives.

I like the second image but also wanted to modify the text on the gravestones. So I asked for the seed number of the third image and asked ChatGPT/DALLE3 to change the text.

Ok, so one last little tweak. Now that we can fix text and have it say something, I thought it would be fun to ask ChatGPT/DALLE3 to help me out.

I think because I failed to address the seed number ChatGPT/DALLE3 forgot and went back to the sunglasses. What isn’t about sunglasses that it likes so much?

So I ask it to change the costume again,
