ONE TO BETTER

In pursuit of 1% better, daily.

Kana Study App

Japan Software Development UI/UX

Built a small kana practice app using Replit.

I’ve lived in Japan for many years, and one thing I’ve learned about myself is that I’m not particularly good at learning languages. Not naturally, anyway. I have to rely on tried and true repetition, coming back to the same thing over and over until it slowly sticks.

Kana Study came out of that reality.

On the surface, it’s a simple hiragana and katakana practice app. Underneath, it’s also a learning experiment for me, using Replit to design and build something functional that I can actually use. Maybe it’s useful to other too, so I bought the domain and it’s live now.

I wanted something clean, fast, and focused. No gamification overload. Just enough structure to encourage daily practice and track progress without getting in the way.

This is may be a work-in-progress, or this may be the product, not sure yet. I’ll keep adjusting it as I use it, notice friction, or find better ways to practice. That’s part of the process.

Living here has taught me that fluency isn’t a destination, it’s about constant maintenance. Kana Study is my way of showing up for that maintenance, one small session at a time. —TA
